The official opening ceremony of the 25th Session of the Southern and Eastern Africa Consortium for Monitoring Educational Quality (SEACMEQ) Managing Committee opens this morning at the University of Botswana Conference Centre.

According to Public Affairs Officer – Media in the UB Department of Public Affairs, Thomas T. Nkhoma, SEACMEQ Managing Committee is a sub-committee of the SEACMEQ Assembly of Ministers which includes Ministers of Education from Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania (Zanzibar) and Zimbabwe.

Previously known as SACMEQ, the Consortium is an international, non-profit developmental organisation consisting of 16 Ministries of Education from Southern and Eastern Africa. The ministries collaborate to share expertise and experiences with the goal of building capacity among education planners.

Nkhoma elaborated that the Consortium focuses on applying scientific methods to monitor and evaluate both the conditions of schooling and the quality of education across the region. Through this partnership, member countries work together to enhance educational planning and improve learning outcomes.

SEACMEQ’s daily operational activities are managed by the SEACMEQ Coordinating Centre which is housed at the University of Botswana.
