Construction of China-aided Africa CDC progresses smoothly

The China-aided Africa CDC project in Addis Ababa, kicked off last December, is running smoothly with its foundation almost finished.

The project covers an area of 90,000 square meters and is expected to be completed within 25 months. It will be equipped with modern office buildings, high-end laboratories, and accessories. Fantahun Hailemichael, coordinator of the project at the AU, hailed the construction of the landmark as an example of the ever-growing China-Africa cooperation in the public health sector.

China approves COVID-19 vaccines for emergency use in kids above 3

 China has begun to allow those aged between 3 and 17 years old to get shots of COVID-19 vaccines, making it the first country to approve these vaccines for such a young age group. An official from the vaccine research and development group said that experts have confirmed the safety and efficacy of giving COVID-19 vaccines to that age group. After relevant approval, the vaccination will start for the age group as the country shifts from vaccinating older people to younger ones. As of 8th June, more than 800 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered across China.

China’s Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law to counter Western hegemony

In response to the so-called sanctions by some Western countries upon Chinese state organs, organizations and public servants by using pretexts including Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong-related issues, at the 29th session of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People’s Congress (NPC) on 10th June 2021, lawmakers voted to pass the highly expected Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law, providing a comprehensive legal basis for blocking illegal foreign sanctions and preventing Chinese individuals and entities from suffering the damage resulting from such illegal sanctions. Deportation, denying entry and freezing of the relevant entity’s assets are among the countermeasures to stop long-arm jurisdiction. The law is also an urgent necessity to safeguard China’s national sovereignty, security and development interests

Madame Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, has called on people from all walks of life around the world to join hands and take action to strengthen the prevention and treatment of AIDS and tuberculosis (TB) to benefit all mankind and build a global community of health for all. Peng, also World Health Organization (WHO) Goodwill Ambassador for Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, made the remarks on 7th June at the opening ceremony of a special high-level event on the sidelines of the United Nations High-Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS via video link.
