China proposes multi-party cooperation for Africa’s development with Germany and France

During a virtual summit with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on 5th July, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China welcomes France and Germany to join the Initiative on Partnership for Africa’s Development, which was jointly launched by China and African countries, and carry out trilateral, four-party or multi-party cooperation. China has been providing vaccines to more than 40 African countries and the African Union Commission, signed debt relief agreements or reached debt relief consensus with 19 African countries, and participated constructively in sustainable development plans in Africa.

Chinese Foreign Ministry calls for multilateralism at the 9th World Peace Forum

At the 9th World Peace Forum held at Tsinghua University, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered a keynote speech titled “Safeguarding World Peace and Promoting Human Progress”. Wang pointed out that upholding and practicing true multilateralism is the right direction to solve complicated problems in today’s world and effectively respond to various traditional and non-traditional security challenges. It is also the only way to break zero-sum game, resist unilateral bullying, and truly achieve lasting peace and common security. Wang called for joint efforts to cope with imminent global challenges, to promote the political settlement of global hotspot issues, and to oppose the dangerous acts of deliberately creating divisions and provoking confrontations.

COVID-19 ‘lab leak’ theory rebuked

In a letter published by The Lancet on 5th July, 24 internationally-renowned scientists rebuked the so-called “lab leak” theory some US politicians are trying to sell. They said that “the strongest clue from new, credible, and peer-reviewed evidence in the scientific literature is that the virus evolved in nature, while suggestions of a laboratory-leak source of the pandemic remain without scientifically validated evidence.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin commented that with all the sleight of hand of some US politicians at political manipulation, they cannot alter the fact that it is the US politicians themselves who dismiss science and politicize epidemic response that should be held accountable for the loss of more than 600,000 American lives. Attempts to politicize origin-tracing to scapegoat other countries will only end up in failure.
