Russia’s FM, Sergey Lavrov discussed a range of bilateral issues with his South African counterpart, Ronald Lamola

Delegations of Russia and South Africa led by the two countries' Foreign Ministers, Sergey Lavrov and Ronald Lamola

Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of Russia met with South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola on April 16.

Lamola had arrived in Moscow for the 18th meeting of the Mixed Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation as chair of the South African part of the Committee.

Both Ministers discussed a range of issues related to further strengthening the traditionally friendly Russian-South African relations with a focus on promoting mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, the economy, science, and technology.

They also reaffirmed Moscow and Pretoria’s unwavering commitment to effectively coordinate actions at BRICS, the G20, the United Nations, and in other multilateral formats to find the best solutions to current global and regional problems, in accordance with the principles of international law and the provisions of the UN Charter.

Meanwhile, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, had a telephone conversation on April 16, 2025

The presidents discussed issues pertaining to the further development of bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and the economy, as well as investment.

In view of the willingness to contribute in the search for ways to peacefully resolve the Ukraine crisis displayed by the South African side, Vladimir Putin outlined Russia’s principled stance regarding the necessity to eliminate the root causes behind the conflict and ensure Russia’s security interests are respected.

The President of Russia extended his best wishes to Cyril Ramaphosa and the entire South African people for the upcoming Freedom Day, the national day of South Africa celebrated on April 27.

The leaders resolved to maintain contact at various levels.
