–   Offering free hospital cash cover to its active customers

Orange Money Botswana has launched a groundbreaking embedded insurance product that provides free hospital cash cover to active customers—advancing financial inclusion and easing the burden of unexpected medical expenses

The Orange Money Hospital Cash Benefit provides active Orange Money users with insurance cover that is applied in the event of hospitalisation at any hospital that is registered under the Ministry of Health & Wellness for a minimum of two (2) consecutive nights.

The benefit to customers is automatically applied based on a customer’s Orange Money usage, offering them an opportunity to receive up to P6,000 payment should they have been hospitalized for a month.

“This new benefit is one small step in our ambitions to give back to our loyal customers by helping to lessen the financial burden that being hospitalized can bring,” said Seabelo Pilane, CEO of Orange Money Botswana.

“We currently have a wide spectrum of customers that are young, old, in between jobs, employed, self-employed, etc. all of which are eligible for cover at no cost and their cover is renewed monthly based on their usage.”

Unlike traditional insurance products, the hospital cash cover doesn’t require customers to complete any forms to be covered, there are no monthly premiums to pay and additionally customers have full control on how much cover they can benefit from at no cost.

Eligibility and cover levels are determined by customers’ monthly usage of Orange Money services they already use in their everyday lives, which include making payments with DuelaEasy, using the Orange Money Visa card to pay or at ATM, transferring/sending money locally or internationally, paying bills, buying airtime and data bundles, transfer to bank accounts, and cashing out at agents.

Active Orange Money customers can qualify for cover that ranges from P25 per night for lower monthly transactions (below P500) to a Premium Cover of P200 per night for transactions of P6,000 and above, with payouts extending up to P6,000 per month.

Pilane highlighted that the product is designed for ease of use and accessibility. “Being as digital as possible has been our priority in developing Orange Money offers, the same applies with the Orange Money Hospital Cash Benefit, where many aspects of the customer experience is entirely on their mobile phone, eliminating the need to queue or fill forms” he said.

He added that, “claiming is triggered by customers by accessing Orange Money dialing *145# which will trigger an assessment process followed by a requirement for the customer submitting hospital discharge form, hospital invoice/receipt and proof of identity via WhatsApp.”

With this launch, Orange Money Botswana is reinforcing its position as a champion for financial inclusion and is committed to being a holistic financial services partner that delivers practical solutions for everyday needs of Batswana.

The Orange Money Hospital Cash Back Insurance is offered through a partnership with Metropolitan Insurance as the insurer and Inclusivity Solutions as the technical partner.
