President of Russia Vladimir Putin held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty

Moscow: April 2, 2026

President Vladimir Putin welcomed Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, for high-level talks aimed at strengthening ties between the two nations.

The discussions were attended by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, while Egypt was represented by Ambassador Hamdy Shaaban.

Putin opened the meeting by recalling his recent conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, emphasising the importance of maintaining regular dialogue.

He highlighted ongoing cooperation projects, including the construction of Egypt’s nuclear power plant and the development of a Russian industrial zone, where more than ten major Russian companies are prepared to operate.

Plans for a grain and energy hub in Egypt were also raised as a potential new area of collaboration.

The Russian leader underscored the significance of Egypt’s role in regional stability, noting shared concerns over ongoing conflicts.

He reiterated Russia’s readiness to contribute to peace efforts and expressed interest in Egypt’s assessments as a key Middle Eastern nation.

Putin also extended an invitation for Egypt to send a strong delegation to the upcoming Russia-Africa Summit in October, adding that Moscow would be honoured to host President el-Sisi if his schedule allowed.

On the economic front, Putin announced that following his recent call with el-Sisi, he had instructed the Russian government to work closely with Egyptian counterparts on food supplies, particularly grain.

He noted Russia’s strong agricultural performance last year and assured that there were no obstacles to fulfilling Egypt’s needs.

The meeting reflected both countries’ commitment to expanding cooperation across energy, agriculture, and industrial development, while also addressing pressing regional challenges.
