Ramaotwana to Lead Botswana Delegation at SADC Security Meeting

GABORONE, July 16, 2026 — Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Honourable Nelson Ramaotwana, will head Botswana’s delegation to the 28th Ordinary Meeting of the SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO) on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, taking place July 16–17 in Salima, Malawi.

The meeting brings together ministers responsible for Foreign Affairs, Defence, Public and State Security across the region. It will be chaired by Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Honourable Dr George Thapatula Chaponda, in his capacity as MCO Chairperson.

Delegates are expected to review progress on implementing decisions of the MCO, SADC Council and Summit, with a focus on advancing peace, security and democratic consolidation.

Key agenda items include frameworks for post‑conflict reconstruction and development, as well as centres of excellence on good governance, rule of law and human rights.

Botswana’s participation underscores the country’s commitment to regional integration and to promoting a safe, secure and stable Southern African Development Community. Senior government officials accompanied Minister Ramaotwana.
