Kaone Kario

* Four local actors join PCH

* Director will be announced once filming has wrapped

* Director will be a Motswana

A short film starring Kaone Kario has begun production in Gaborone, marking the international model’s film debut. The film is called “Partly Cloudy & Hot” or PCH and it will be filmed entirely in Gaborone and surrounding areas by end of 2022.

The producers of the film (CattlePost Films) have noted on the film Facebook page that PCH is being made in line with CattlePost Films’ mandate “to promote the talents of Batswana to a global market.”

Kaone Kario first shot to prominence in 2005 when she was named Face of Africa beating beauties from around Africa. Since then, Ms. Kario has had an illustrious career as an international model. Kaone’s excellence and visibility as an international model has been an unprecedented one for a Motswana thereby earning her the fitting label as Botswana’s first Supermodel.

Ms. Kario’s previous acting work has been entirely on South African television where she is based. Therefore, Partly Cloudy & Hot (or PCH) marks the first time that Kario is on a Botswana film set.

Partly Cloudy & Hot will employ 100% local Botswana crew. All departments of the film, from make-up to cinematography to set design will be headed by Batswana creative to ensure cultural accuracy and respect for local creatives. The Line Producer overseeing the entire shoot will be Bonolo Merciah Moletsane.

The post-production for the film such as editing will also be done in Gaborone by Botswana companies. These are the efforts on the part of the filmmakers to ensure that a film about Botswana employs Batswana and empowers local citizen-owned companies.

In PCH, Kaone Kario plays the lead character of Sara, a modern young woman living in Gaborone. Although details about the story remain under wraps while production is ongoing, CattlePost Films can confirm that Ms. Kario’s supporting cast will also be all Batswana actors.

Gofaone Molosiwa will play the role of Mrs. Tyolo who is also a modern young woman living in Gaborone. In 2021, Molosiwa made her acting debut in “Dithunya tsa Rona,” a local feature film.  Ms. Molosiwa has previously turned heads as a successful fashion model.

Speaking from the PCH set this week, Molosiwa says that, “It is an incredible experience being part of the PCH set, the production team and cast are so supportive and helpful.”

“It is a dream come true to get an opportunity to work with Kaone Kario.  She and I have had some great conversations during rehearsals,” Molosiwa shares.

Opposite Molosiwa, and playing Mr. Tyolo will be Tulani Theo Tau. Mr. Tau was the lead in Btv’s hit series, “Colours.” On stage, he has devised and performed with Folk Tale Theatre Company for a number of years ultimately producing his original play in 2015 which was a scathing attack on corruption in Botswana. Currently, Mr. Tau presents a local TV sports show.

In his own words, Mr. Tau says, “I joined the cast of PCH due to my intrigue in being in an international project. I was also impressed by the cast assembled.”

Mr. Tau says that Batswana should be excited for PCH because “it is relatable to the common man.”

Poloko Gladys Morobolo, whose recent film credits include local films “Test Your Love, Too” and “Dithunya tsa Rona” will take on the role of Prophetess. Ms. Morobolo has previously starred opposite acclaimed South African actor Andrew Poo in “Devil on the Cross.”

Speaking after arriving on set Morobolo says, “Being on set is amazing. The cast and crew are both having a wonderful time. I am thankful for this opportunity.”

Special Ramatudung will play the role of Prophet. Ramatudung previously starred in a film called “Moipolai” for which he earned great critical acclaim. He has been in numerous TV shows including “Bonweenwee” and “Central Intelligence.”

Ramatudung notes that, “The PCH set is intimate. There’s a lot of interaction between us actors which is fantastic.”

Mr. Ramatudung says from set, “I first heard about the project from Tricia Sello who is the Assistant Director for PCH. I can’t ever emphasize sufficiently how honoured I was that the Executive Producer, Donald Molosi, also head-hunted me for project. May God lift him.”

CattlePost Films will announce the film’s director once production has concluded and accurate credits are confirmed. At this juncture, we are happy to confirm that all the shortlisted film directors for Ms. Kario’s film debut are Batswana.

“Partly Cloudy & Hot” or PCH is scheduled for a 2023 world premiere.

More details about the film will be shared once production has wrapped.
