OCTOBER 8, 2023

  •  “I enjoyed every minute of it. It is such a moving story expressed in a very real and tasteful way!” Says UK-based Motswana Rebecca Binns
  • “Partly Cloudy & Hot” has concluded its London triple-premiere
  • The London triple-premiere was supported by “Real Time Festival of Kent,” “London International Pan-African Film Festival” and “Greenwich Film Festival”.

Over the weekend, “Partly Cloudy & Hot” had its third screening in London, UK. The high-profile short film and its producers were hosted by the London International Pan-African Film Festival following the film’s earlier London screenings at both Real Time Festival and Greenwich Film Festival.

The LIPAFF screening was held at the West Norwood Picturehouse in London. The red carpet ceremony was attended by a diverse audience of film and Africa enthusiasts as well as international diplomats.

The list of dignitaries who attended included Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo His Excellency Ndolamb Ngokwey; British-Trinidadian chef Clive Ganess, the Mayor of Lambeth His Honour Sarbaz Barznji.

Said Mr. Ganess at the event, “We are all happy to be out here to support this powerful Botswana film. Mr. Molosi is a terrific ambassador for Botswana.”

For his turn, the film’s Executive Producer Donald Molosi thanked the LIPAFF for hosting “Partly Cloudy & Hot.” Molosi is currently on a public speaking tour called MOITOBO across the UK and the screening was one of his scheduled tour stops.

Molosi explained at the screening that, “I am happy to be back in the UK for two weeks to share this film with my London family. I trained as an actor in this city graduating in 2007 and I attended my first Hollywood film premiere here in London in 2015.

“Tonight’s screening was special because my English teacher from my teens in Botswana, Mme Sally Jobson, was in the audience. She was my teacher when I first fell in love with writing dialogue as a teen. It meant a lot to have her here tonight.”

“Partly Cloudy & Hot” stars Zenzo Ngqobe and Kaone Kario as a couple struggling to conceive. It was line-produced by Merciah Bonolo Moletsane. The short film made history last month when it was certified Oscar-qualifying at the BronzeLens Film Festival in Atlanta, Georgia.

Speaking about the experience of watching the Botswana film in London cinemas, a UK-based Motswana, Rebecca Binns wrote on Facebook that it was “…such a lovely moment and well done to Molosi, Kaone Kario and their crew. I enjoyed every minute of it. It is such a moving story expressed in a very real and tasteful way.”

In “Partly Cloudy and Hot,” a husband’s masculinity is challenged when his wife hands him a male fertility test.
