On the warm evening of 13 November 2025, diplomats, heads of international organisations, government officials, and distinguished guests gathered at the Official Residence of the Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Botswana to commemorate the 71st Anniversary of Algeria’s Glorious Liberation Revolution.

The event, themed “Message to Generations”, celebrated Algeria’s historic journey to sovereignty and its enduring global partnerships.

Hosted by the Algerian Embassy, the reception spotlighted Algeria’s revolutionary legacy and its principled stance on peace, justice, and solidarity. In his remarks, His Excellency Ambassador Abdelmalek Tigharghar reflected on the significance of 1 November 1954—the day the revolution began—calling it “a defining moment that changed the course of Algeria’s destiny forever.”

He reaffirmed Algeria’s support for oppressed peoples, notably Palestine and Western Sahara, emphasising the country’s unwavering commitment to self-determination and human rights.

Ambassador Tigharghar also highlighted the strong bilateral ties between Algeria and Botswana, citing:

•             Scholarships offered to Botswana students in various fields

•             The March 2025 meeting between Botswana’s Minister of Sport and Arts, Jacob Kelebang, and Algeria’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Walid Sadi

•             Botswana’s active participation in the September 2025 Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) in Algiers, led by Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Tireoeaone Ntsima

Guest of honour Mr Moeti Ceasor Mohwasa, Minister of State, President, extended heartfelt congratulations to Algeria, praising the courage and vision of its leaders and the enduring inspiration of its liberation legacy.

He also commended Algeria’s principled support for the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, affirming Botswana’s shared commitment to human rights and a just resolution for Western Sahara.

The evening featured Algerian music, heritage videos, and a culinary showcase prepared by Mrs Kahina Tigharghar, Spouse of the Ambassador. Guests enjoyed traditional dishes such as couscous and bourka, offering a taste of Algeria’s rich cultural identity.

As the reception drew to a close, the atmosphere was one of gratitude and renewed cooperation. Algeria is set to host several key events in November and December, including:

•             The 4th Edition on Startups

•             The 12th Seminar on Peace and Security (Oran Process)

•             A conference on colonial crimes in Africa, aligned with the African Union’s 2025 theme: “Year of Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations”
