Gaborone, June 16, 2026 – Botswana’s higher education sector will today mark a major milestone with the launch of the Ideas Test Lab, a collaborative incubation programme designed to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving among public universities.

The initiative is a partnership between Penn State University (USA), the University of Botswana (UB), Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN), and the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST).

It aims to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with opportunities to develop and test innovative ideas while strengthening the country’s innovation ecosystem.

The launch event at UniPod, Block 205 at the University of Botswana will be graced by the United States Ambassador to Botswana, H.E. Ambassador H.A. Van Vranken, alongside dignitaries from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Organisers said the Ideas Test Lab represents a significant step in enhancing collaboration between academia, industry, and international partners.

By pooling resources and expertise, the programme seeks to accelerate the creation of solutions to Botswana’s socio-economic challenges while nurturing a new generation of innovators.

University officials emphasised that the programme will not only encourage entrepreneurial thinking among students but also strengthen institutional cooperation across Botswana’s public universities.
