Francistown, Botswana — The Botswana People’s Party (BPP) will convene a Leadership Forum on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Bluetown Hall in Francistown as part of efforts to revive its organizational structures and strengthen its political foundation.
Running from 09:00 to 11:00 hrs under the theme “Reviving the BPP, Building Structures and Strengthening the Foundation,” the forum will bring together party leaders, members, and stakeholders to deliberate on renewal strategies, grassroots mobilization, and resolutions that will shape the party’s future direction.

The BPP, one of Botswana’s oldest political movements, was founded in 1960 as the Bechuanaland People’s Party by Kgalemang T. Motsete. It played a pioneering role in the independence struggle and has historically espoused democratic socialism and Pan-African ideals.
Today, the party operates under the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) coalition alongside the Botswana National Front and Alliance for Progressives.
In a related development, the BPP recently announced its representation at the UDC National Executive Committee (NEC). The delegation comprises Party President Motlatsi Molapise, Vice President Phillip Bulawa, National Chair Venter Gabatshabiwe, and Secretary General Mmantlha Sankoloba.
The party described the team as a balanced blend of experience, institutional knowledge, and strategic leadership, entrusted with advancing the BPP’s vision within the coalition.
According to the party, this representation underscores its commitment to loyalty, unity, and disciplined cooperation within the UDC framework, while positioning the BPP to exert meaningful influence on policy direction and coalition-building efforts.
The upcoming forum in Francistown is expected to reinforce these priorities, providing clarity on the party’s strategic renewal and its role within the UDC ahead of future electoral contests.
Significance of the Forum
- Strategic Renewal: The forum is expected to outline strategies for rebuilding party structures and enhancing grassroots mobilisation.
- Coalition Dynamics: As part of the UDC, the BPP’s revival efforts could influence opposition strength ahead of future elections.
- Public Engagement: Media coverage will play a key role in informing citizens about the party’s resolutions and its evolving role in Botswana’s democracy
