The GAE is not an opaque structure, nor parallel to the Cuban State; it has been, on the contrary, an articulated response of proven efficiency to the economic siege that has historically tried to suffocate the Cuban Revolution.
The Government of the United States has once again acted with premeditated intent in an effort to construct pretexts to discredit the Cuban Revolution, its historic leadership, the leaders and, in so doing, to confuse both our people and international public opinion.
Everything responds to a roadmap designed by ideologues of the Cuban-American ultra-right, who boast of being creative and unpredictable. Its strategy focuses on the use of tools that increase the policy of maximum pressure extremely and unusually.

That plan is in line with the most recent sanctions against Cuba announced on May 1. Executive Order 14404 identifies the Business Administration Group (GAE) as a target, this time, in coordination with the so-called secondary sanctions aimed at any foreign actor that carries out operations of any kind with this Group, emphasising the pressures against financial institutions.
This is the most intense, disproportionate and dangerous escalation in the recent history of relations between Cuba and the United States.
The deliberate purpose is to isolate the country diplomatically, commercially, financially, and energetically; to make the nation’s sustainability impossible; to condition dialogue and evaluate variants of military aggression.
They need to build and consolidate a narrative of reputational discredit against all the institutions that support our social project.
The GAE was born in the middle of the Special Period to face the economic war, with a creative, own, autochthonous and genuinely Cuban vision. Its objective has always been to bring together companies with the capacity to generate foreign exchange and resources that the State requires to maintain and develop social conquests and contribute to the promotion of sectors and branches of national life.
The services provided to the Homeland by the Business Administration Group are countless. The material and financial contributions of this organisation can be seen in dissimilar examples: in the construction of more than 10 thousand homes in various provinces of the country, in the creation of a Pioneer Camp and vacation plans for children, and in the way in which the Cuban economy was sustained during the years of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The fruits of this business activity have also been destined to investments in the Lidio Ramón Pérez (Felton) thermoelectric plant in Holguín, to the design and consolidation of large hydraulic works, including the East-West and North-South transfers for the benefit of millions of Cubans.
There are the investments and repairs made to polyclinics, family doctors’ houses and schools. All of these activities have been systematically reported to the leadership of the Party, the State and the Government and, in all cases, subject to the maximum control and supervision of the competent authorities and mechanisms.
The GAE is not an opaque structure, nor parallel to the Cuban State; it has been, on the contrary, an articulated response of proven efficiency to the economic siege that has historically tried to suffocate the Cuban Revolution.
As expressed by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, at the 8th Congress of the Party, the business improvement developed in the first place within the Revolutionary Armed Forces is rigorously historic, an experience that later served the country and whose remarkable results contribute to the national economy.
Thousands of men and women, during these last 30 years, have been discreet guardians of the country’s resources and deserve recognition. Although his work has not been sufficiently told, it speaks for itself and does so above the state slander concocted by Washington.
Today, when the will of the Cuban people is expressed in a process of changes, contained in the Government’s Economic and Social Programme, this organisation is an active part of the transformations of the country’s business system.
The GAE is not the work of secrecy, nor of elites and much less the way to enrich a few. It is, on the contrary, one of the many examples that, along our path, has allowed us to resist the permanent aggression of the United States government.
Its history was built, in the words of the Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz: “without the slightest desire for prominence, as serious things are done.”
