Emmanuel Njang Attends Global South NGO Platform in Baku, Azerbaijan to Represent Botswana Youth

1 May 2025

April 30, 2025 – Emmanuel Njang, President of the Upright African Movement (UAM), is in Baku, Azerbaijan, attending the Global South NGO Platform, which runs from April 30 to May 2, 2025.

This important conference, organized by For The Social Welfare of Citizens, Public Union, and the National NGO Forum (NNF) of Azerbaijan, is a pivotal event for NGOs dedicated to social advancement across the Global South. At the conference, Njang will deliver a speech about Botswana’s lack of progress with curriculum decolonization.

Mr. Njang’s participation holds particular significance for the youth of Botswana. His presence at the conference exemplifies UAM’s commitment to fostering youth leadership and cross-border collaboration to address pressing environmental and social issues.

“Our youth are the catalysts for change,” stated Emmanuel Njang. “By engaging with global peers, they gain invaluable perspectives and build networks that empower them to tackle challenges within their communities. For instance, in Botswana, we are still crying for a curriculum that is not from colonial times.”

Founded in 2016, the Upright African Movement is dedicated to transforming education and fostering leadership among African youth. The organization emphasizes localizing curricula to ensure educational content is relevant and impactful. “We are deeply committed to creating environments where young leaders can flourish and drive meaningful change,” Njang added.

The Upright African Movement has been a cornerstone in advocating for educational reforms and youth empowerment across Africa since 2016.

In 2017, the movement led by Donald Molosi advocated against the Afro-hair not being allowed at the Rainbow School of Gaborone. By prioritizing localized education and community-driven solutions, UAM aims to equip the next generation with the tools they need to lead effectively and sustainably.

Njang is expected back in Botswana in the first week of May.
