HB invests 137 Million Pula in Botswana, fuelling the nation’s rise as a diamond powerhouse

Eighteen (18) months after launch, HB is advancing HB Botswana’s processing capacity with a transformative new 137 million Pula investment.

This commitment will expand HB’s processing capacity and create hundreds of high-quality jobs, positioning Botswana as a leading hub for diamond innovation on the African continent.

This investment introduces cutting-edge machinery and breakthrough technology, positioning HB Botswana facility as the most advanced diamond operations globally and the most sophisticated on the African continent.

The unrivalled technology systems will enable a new generation of skilled jobs in Botswana’s diamond sector.

“At HB, we believe that Botswana’s diamond industry should be powered by its people, using the best technology available,” Omogolo Mathumo, HB Botswana’s Communication Manager, said.

“This investment not only generates jobs but also invests in local talent, providing valuable skills that will have a lasting impact on Botswana’s economy.”

Key additions include:

  • 3 last generation HB Droid Diamond Polishing Robots: High-speed automated, fully independent, polishing robots that dramatically enhance volume and quality, requiring skilled operators and technical support.
  • 20 HB Signifeye Stereo Microscopes: Advanced grading and QC tools that ensure precision, creating new roles for skilled diamond graders.
  • 9 HB EOSFancy Diamond Bruting Machines: Machines designed to maximize yield, reduce waste, and improve efficiency, demanding specialised, educated operators.
  • 4 Lasers: Waterjet lasers that enhance cutting accuracy and efficiency, opening opportunities for technicians trained in high-tech laser operation.

This advanced technology suite enhances HB’s processing capabilities and lays the groundwork for long-term job creation and talent development in Botswana’s diamond sector.

The facility will generate meaningful employment opportunities for local communities, empowering Batswana with skills in HB ANTWERP advanced diamond manufacturing and creating a pipeline of talent that will shape Botswana’s future as a leader in the global diamond industry.

Combined with the 178 million pula invested over the past 18 months, HB’s total investment in Botswana is 315 million pula.
