Njungura herbal tea from Chobe District finds market in Eastern and Southern Africa

Njungura is a herbal drink made by Jerry Boitshoko, a multitalented man who wears many hats.

Among these, he is an entrepreneur, ghostwriter, published author of several books, and an internationally-acclaimed multi-award-winning filmmaker.

Boitshoko is also an Africa Program Coordinator in the Awladna International Forum for Arts of the Gifted. It is an Egyptian organisation that has President General Sisi of the Arab Republic of Egypt as its patron.

He is also the Africa Coordinator for another organisation based in Egypt that promotes the Chinese Arts and Folklore Festival.

As if that is not enough, Boitshoko is the founder of the Jb Tech smartphone brand. Last but not least, he has commercialised indigenous herbal medicine that has been used culturally among his people – the Basubia tribe – for centuries known as Njungura.

Njungura is a cultural herbal remedy that is made up of several plants, including but not limited to Carissa Macrocarpa, Fokea Multiflora, and others. Each plant has medicinal properties that are unique to it.

“The plants have individual names. We refer to them collectively as Njungura. Making Njungura is like making a recipe for a mouthwatering meal. In layman’s terms, Njungura refers to the herbal recipe of the highest distinction”, Boitshoko stated.

Njungura has been in existence for over 400 years. Boitshoko strongly believes it goes way beyond that to as far back as 1100 BC.

The plants are not all found in a single location. They are carefully selected from throughout the Chobe District. A team of five people is responsible for preparing Njungura across all the stages until it reaches the end-user.

Throughout Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Zambia, Njungura has a huge client base and positive feedbacks.

Boitshoko said they had a client who used to have a 45-day menstrual cycle and that once she used Njungura, the cycle was restored to 28 days.

The lady has not had the need to use the product in a year. A good number of testimonies can be found on the Facebook page, Njungura.

Njungura is mainly sold online from Kasane. Clients place an order then Jerry and his team courier it to them. There are also agents that buy at wholesale price and then sell at retail price.

Having agents has served two purposes; getting the product to a market that they would not normally reach and by selling the product, also generate revenue.

Some of the agents go beyond the call of duty to earn themselves extra revenue.

Boitshoko admitted that they are unable to meet the demand of their clients in Europe and North Africa because of the nature of the product.

In Southern Africa, Njungura has been able to penetrate two countries – Zimbabwe and Zambia within the space of a month which is a huge milestone for them.

They are now looking at taking the product to East Africa in the form of teabags. They have been working on this for a while now, with the intention of piloting the new product in SADC first and they are getting closer each day.

Among the benefits of Njungura, Boitshoko mentions that it detoxifies the kidneys; Purifies the blood; Enhances libido in men and women; Cleanses the womb; Restores abnormal menstrual cycle; and, Assists men that struggle with a weak erection.

Njungura has no side effects and no allergies. Aside from Njungura, Boitshoko and his employees have been ghostwriting books for other people for several years.

They have written for clients in Singapore, China, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Burundi, Cameroon, and Liberia. They have also published a good number of books for clients in Botswana and abroad.

They have also been privileged to publish works by an American author as well.

Boitshoko goes by the mantra that, despite having a lifetime to know ourselves, one of the hardest things to do in life is describing oneself.
