Seasoned journalist Andrew Sesinyi – who boasts over three decades of an illustrious career in the public service, banking industry, and international media organisations – has been appointed High Commissioner to Kenya.

He takes up his appointment in Kenya in May 2023, replacing High Commissioner Gobopang Duke Lefhoko who recently completed his tour of duty.

Born on the 7th of September 1952 in Mmadinare, Botswana, Sesinyi is a published author of four novels and one play: LOVE ON THE ROCKS (Macmillan 1981); RASSIE (Macmillan 1992); CARJACK (Longmans, 2001), SHADOWS OF BIRTH, (Media Palms 2010), GOODBYE TO POWER (Media Palms 2010.

In a press statement circulated on the 17th of April 2023, the office of Public Diplomacy, Research and Policy Analysis in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the President, Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi has appointed Mr. Andrew Onalenna Sesinyi, as Botswana’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya.

Admittedly, Sesinyi brings a wealth of experience to the Foreign Service having worked in the public service, banking industry and international media organisations such as, the African Union of Broadcasting.

In his most recent post, he served as the Permanent Secretary, Government Communications at the Office of the President (2019-2021), where he played an instrumental role overseeing Botswana’s communication aspects of governance.

As a seasoned journalist, he has gained national recognition for the contributions he has made in promoting Botswana’s national development agenda story on both local and international media platforms.

Other portfolios that Sesinyi has held within the public service include, Deputy Permanent Secretary – Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology; Deputy Permanent Secretary – Political Affairs; and Senior Private Secretary to the former President of the Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Dr. Festus Gontebanye Mogae.

High Commissioner-Designate Sesinyi, has also played a key role in advancing Botswana’s national interests abroad during the time he served at Botswana Diplomatic Missions in Namibia (1989-1995) and in Zambia (1982-1983).

Sesinyi has indicated in his blog, that he is in the process of publishing more works. He is married and has children. He loves gardening, keeping fit with exercise, holidaying on seaside venues, driving, and playing chess.
