On August 29, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Senegal Yassine Fall, who is in Moscow on a working visit.

During the talks, the Ministers discussed in detail a range of issues related to further strengthening friendly Russian-Senegalese ties.

They reaffirmed Moscow’s and Dakar’s intention to deepen the trust-based political dialogue and tighten coordination of positions of principle on topical international and regional issues at the UN and other multilateral platforms.

The Parties had a detailed discussion of ways to increase the volume of trade, economic and investment partnership, improve the contractual and legal framework, implement promising joint projects in geological prospecting, development of mineral resources, energy, infrastructure, fisheries, and information and communication technologies.

Specific ways of boosting cooperation in cultural, humanitarian and other areas have been identified.

The Ministers exchanged views on key issues on the global and African agenda, with a focus on the necessity of reforming the UN Security Council, the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East, and the developments in the Sahara-Sahel region and West Africa.

They highlighted the importance of consolidating the efforts of Russia and Senegal in favour of building a fairer world order based on the rule of international law and the provisions of the UN Charter.

A common viewpoint was expressed in favour of political and diplomatic methods of resolving crises in Africa given the decisive role of Africans themselves and the assistance of the international community.

Considerable attention was given to the promotion of Russian-African multidimensional cooperation taking into account the results of the second #RussiaAfrica Summit in June 2023, as well as in view of preparations for the Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum scheduled for November of this year in Sochi.
