University of Botswana Introduces Postgraduate Tuition Waivers and Graduate Teaching Support

Gaborone, 12th January 2026

The University of Botswana has announced a ground-breaking initiative to support postgraduate students and enhance teaching and learning capacity within the institution.

Eligible full-time postgraduate students can now benefit from tuition fee waivers under a newly approved arrangement.

The initiative offers full tuition fee waivers for eligible Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students and partial tuition fee waivers for eligible Master’s students.

However, access to these waivers is not automatic upon admission. Students must meet specific eligibility requirements and complete an approved application and selection process in line with the University’s regulations and policies. Terms and conditions apply.

In addition to the financial support, students who receive tuition waivers will contribute to the University’s teaching and learning activities.

These responsibilities may include teaching undergraduate courses, conducting tutorials, leading practical sessions, and performing other instructional duties.

Assignments will be coordinated by the relevant academic units and supervised by Heads of Department.

The University has clarified that any additional work outside teaching and learning responsibilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis and processed through the relevant Deputy Vice Chancellor.

Further details regarding eligibility criteria, application procedures, and implementation will be shared through official University channels.
