Vivo Energy Opens 85th Shell Service Station in Mmopane

GABORONE, September 25, 2026 – Vivo Energy Botswana has expanded its national retail network with the opening of the Shell Mmopane service station, bringing the total number of Shell-branded stations in the country to 85.

The new facility is aimed at improving access to fuel and related services in the fast-growing Kweneng region, where increasing residential, commercial and commuter activity has driven demand for greater convenience and service coverage.

Speaking at the official opening, Vivo Energy Botswana Managing Director Sesupo Wagamang said the investment formed part of the company’s strategy to expand into areas experiencing population and economic growth.

“Our network expansion is about more than increasing the number of stations we operate. It is about making deliberate investments and establishing a presence where Botswana is growing,” Wagamang said.

He described Mmopane as an important and rapidly developing area, adding that the new station would bring Shell products and services closer to customers while strengthening the company’s ability to serve the community.

In addition to Shell fuels and lubricants, the station includes a Pick n Pay Go convenience outlet and a Pick n Pay Liquor store, reflecting changing customer preferences for one-stop retail destinations.

Wagamang said motorists increasingly expect service stations to provide more than fuel.

“Customers are looking for quality, reliability and convenience, and they want to be able to meet more of their everyday needs in one journey,” he said.

The company expects the investment to contribute to the local economy through job creation, skills development and increased business opportunities for suppliers and service providers operating in and around Mmopane.

The opening forms part of Vivo Energy Botswana’s broader programme to strengthen its retail footprint across the country as it targets growing communities and seeks to improve customer accessibility.

Wagamang said the company’s approach to expansion was focused on balancing commercial growth with community benefits.

“With Shell Mmopane, we are creating employment, supporting skills development, improving access to services and strengthening convenience for customers,” he said.

Vivo Energy Botswana said it will continue investing in its retail network while exploring opportunities to expand its presence in areas experiencing sustained population growth and economic activity.
