Gaborone, April 29, 2026 — Commissioner of Police Dinah Marathe today received a courtesy call from the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Botswana, His Excellency Andrey Kemarskiy, at Police Headquarters, reaffirming the strong institutional ties between the Botswana Police Service (BPS) and Russia’s Ministry of Interior.
The meeting underscored the longstanding collaboration in policing and security, with Commissioner Marathe expressing appreciation for Russia’s continued support through training and capacity‑building programmes.
These initiatives have strengthened BPS capabilities in forensic science, crime detection, counter‑terrorism, and peacekeeping operations.

Marathe emphasized Botswana’s role as an active member of INTERPOL, reiterating the country’s commitment to combating transnational organised crime in partnership with international allies.
She also assured the diplomatic community of BPS’s dedication to public safety and highlighted preparations to secure the upcoming DEBSWANA World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026.

Ambassador Kemarskiy commended Botswana’s reputation for peace and stability, noting Russia’s readiness to expand cooperation in law enforcement, crime prevention, and security. He pointed to ongoing collaboration in areas such as:
- Forensic and investigative training: Russian institutions have provided technical expertise to enhance Botswana’s crime scene management and evidence analysis.
- Cybercrime and digital security: Joint workshops have focused on tackling online fraud, financial crimes, and emerging digital threats.
- Counter‑terrorism and organised crime: Botswana and Russia share intelligence and best practices to address cross‑border criminal networks.
- Peacekeeping and policing exchanges: Officers from BPS have participated in Russian‑facilitated programmes on international policing standards and peace support operations.
- Capacity building in narcotics control: Cooperation includes strategies to combat drug trafficking and strengthen border security.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral security ties, positioning Botswana–Russia cooperation as a key pillar in the fight against transnational crime and in safeguarding national and regional stability.
