A 37-carat pink diamond recovered from Karowe Mine

Antwerp, Belgium – HB Antwerp has received a rare 37.42-carat pink Type IIa diamond recovered from Lucara Diamond Corp’s Karowe Mine in Botswana, marking another milestone in the strategic partnership between the Belgian manufacturer and the southern African nation’s flagship diamond operation.

The stone, described as exceptionally vivid in colour and geological purity, will undergo HB Antwerp’s proprietary transformation process, which combines advanced technology, traceability, and artisanal craftsmanship. The company says the process ensures full transparency from mine to market.

“This stone has the potential to become one of the most important pink diamonds ever polished,” said Oded Mansori, co-founder of HB Antwerp. “Its quality and intensely rich coloration are a testament to the geological uniqueness of the Karowe Mine.”

The arrival of the pink diamond further strengthens the collaboration between HB Antwerp and Lucara, which began in 2020 with a groundbreaking agreement to purchase and manufacture all of Karowe’s large rough stones.

The partnership was designed to bring greater transparency and value retention to Botswana’s diamond sector, with HB Antwerp committing to process the stones in Antwerp while ensuring full traceability and benefit-sharing with Botswana.

Over the past five years, HB Antwerp has handled some of Karowe’s most notable recoveries, including the 1,758-carat Sewelô, the 549-carat Sethunya, the 2,488-carat Motswedi, and the 1,094-carat Sereti. These stones have positioned Karowe as one of the world’s most prolific sources of large, high-value diamonds.

The Karowe Mine, located in central Botswana, is operated by Lucara Diamond Corp and is globally recognized for its consistent recovery of exceptional stones. The mine plays a critical role in Botswana’s mineral exports and economic diversification strategy.
